If you noticed that your contact is unable to receive a text, it is possible that their number has been opted out. Numbers that have been opted out are unable to receive texts from the short code phone number on your account and will appear as bounced in the delivery report. The short code number is a five or six digit number that your account sends texts from.
However, if someone has opted out, you will not be charged for attempting to send texts to these numbers.
Note: This also applies to long code numbers if given upon first activation of your account.*
To view your opt-out numbers, click Contacts and filter the your list by Status - Opted Out.
Before opting out a contact from your account, you may want to review the difference between Deleting and Opting Out Contacts.
How to Opt Out
Contacts can opt out by replying to the text from your short code number with the words, 'STOP', 'REMOVE', 'OPT OUT' or 'CANCEL'. The account holder can opt-out contacts through their account as well by checking the box next to the phone number on your Contacts page or directly from your Inbox.
How to Opt In
The best way to test if a number is opted out is to send them a text or to have them text in your keyword. Your keyword can be found under Keywords & Numbers on the left panel in your account.
Here is an example of how this works:
The demo keyword on this account is EZABC10413. There is a free demo keyword applied to all EZ Texting accounts using the EZ prefix. The short code number on this account that sends out texts is the number, 474747.
So, if a number that has opted out from this account and needs to be opted back in, that contact will have to text in the keyword from their device to the short code phone number on the account.
Give it a try and text your keyword to the number on your account! If you aren't sure what your short code phone number is, you can find it on the upper right corner of the homepage of your account or on the Keywords & Numbers page under the "Learn More" link.
