What are UTM Parameters and why use them with EZ Texting?
UTM parameters are pre-defined text strings that you can append to urls in order to
track website traffic and visitor behavior.
Performance Marketers and Growth Hackers use them to better understand their audience, retarget marketing campaigns, analyze web traffic conversions and A/B test different campaigns. The great news is that EZ Texting supports all types of UTM parameters and it doesn't require additional software.
Utm parameters also help marketers understand which messaging and promotions resonate most with their audience. By utilizing utms when sending messages within EZ Texting, you are able to track and
collect deeper metrics on recipient engagement on items like open rate, click thru rate,
campaign source and conversions.
Here are some common types of UTM parameters used:
How to use UTM parameters with EZ Texting
Step 1
You may add several utm parameters to one url (see example below) by either manually inputting the parameter using your keyboard or utilizing Google’s url generator to reduce typos.
In the example below, you see parameters like source, medium, campaign and keyword appended to the url allowing you to capture various data on campaign behavior & visitor traffic.
Step 2
Once you’ve added your utm parameters to your desired url, you can copy + paste the url into our EZ Texting url tracking tool, which allows you to track click thru rates when sending links via text.
In addition to click thru rates, the url tracking tool also automatically shortens urls when used.
This is features is especially helpful since adding utm parameters can make urls very lengthy. By pasting a url with utm parameters into the link shortener, you are able to reduce the length of the url, hide utm parameters from their recipients and save real estate when sending text messages.
Step 3
After inserting your link, compose and send your message!
Step 4
Track various data on campaign behavior and visitor traffic captured by utm parameters using Google Analytics or other tracking tools you may find suitable.
