Before using your 10-digit toll-free number, it is important to understand the main differences between the two types of numbers which are short code numbers and the toll-free numbers.
Note: The toll-free number will have had to be assigned to your account during activation and is currently in beta testing. Textable numbers purchased after sign up will not have the same functionality.
Based on what you are trying to accomplish with your text messaging campaigns, here's a brief breakdown to explain the purpose for each type of number:
Number Type | Components | Purpose | When To Use It | Limitations | Benefits |
Short Code | 5 to 6 digit number | To send mass texts with a lesser chance of getting blocked as spam by major phone carriers | Can be used to send mass messages to over 1000 recipients more quickly | Contacts can respond only within 12 hours of receiving the mass text as it is a shared code | Faster delivery for sending to a large amount of contacts |
Toll-Free Number | 10-digit number | To create a personal texting experience for 1-on-1 messaging for mass texts | Can be used to send to 1000 recipients or more but may take a little longer to send | Sending out mass texts from this number may take longer to deliver | Can send to US and Canadian recipients; has an unlimited reply window |
Also, Keywords can also be used with both a toll-free number if you were assigned one during the first activation of your account, or a short code number.
Due to our high volume of users, each number is pre-assigned to the user to avoid message traffic build-up.
If you would like to enable your own business number to be used with EZ Texting, here is how you can sign up.
